Symposium entitled “Meeting the cultural heritage of Slovenia” – studying the immaterial cultural heritage on the example of carnival habits
Within the framework of Kurentovanje 2013, a scientific symposium will be held with aim to preserve the interest in the live cultural heritage of any kind, and in the UNESCO preservation of the immaterial heritage. Experts united in the organising committee will try to persuade the organisers and local community that Ptuj is something special among all Slovenian towns. The cultural heritage, and especially Kurentovanje as the most important event carried out by bearers of the live heritage, represent a good basis which could develop into a symbolic, and later on also into the real, spiritual and material centre of the Slovene live heritage.
The programme committee is composed of professional institutions, such as ZRC SAZU Institute of Slovenian Ethnology, dr. Naško Križnar, and dr. Jurij Fikfak, the Slovene ethnographic museum, mag. Adela Pukl, and dr. Nena Židov, the Regional museum Ptuj-Ormož, Andrej Brence, while the main coordinator of the committte is the Scientific Research centre BISTRA Ptuj, dr. Klavdija Rižnar, and the Public Services Ptuj, Mr. Branko Brumen. Honorary guests addressing the participants are: dr. Štefan Čelan, Mayor of Ptuj City Municipality, and Ms. Marjutka Hafner from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology and director of the national UNESCO office. The host of the event and the first speaker will be Mr. Aleš Arih, director of the Regional museum Ptuj-Ormož.
