Kurentovanje, for the 53^rd time in a row, is going to enhance its reputation of international ethnological event, for it has gained its own entry on the European carnival calendar, and as one of the few carnival capitals in Europe. Kurentovanje 2013 consists of three distinguishable thematic events containing various programmes: EthnoFest, CarnivalFest and ArtFest. The main novelty in the programme concerns youngsters who will be able to show their creativity within the programme the Youth in ArtFest Action in fields of music, dance, theatre and photography.

International EthnoFest will start on 3^rd February 2013 with the opening parade and with the participation of autochthonous carnival masks and customs of the Ptuj area, of Slovenia and of the wider European region. On Carnival Sunday, 10^th February, the 53^rd International FECC CarnivalFest will justify once again the reputation of being the biggest carnival event in Slovenia and wider region with the participation of some 4,000 traditional masks from 10 different countries. More than 100 events all open to public will host some 15,000 participants coming from 15 different countries.

 Kurentovanje in Ptuj is without any doubt one of the main festivals of ethnological legacy in Central Europe. It is our mission to preserve this extremely varied and rich tradition of carnival masks and groups in the Ptuj area, Slovenia and the entire world, for they unmistakeably point to the close connection between people and nature throughout all seasons of the year. The significance and importance of it must be shown and explained to the youngsters in order to ensure the continuity of this tradition in future.
